There has always been this sense of idealism in my life, all aspects of it. Logically it is anything but possible in reality, still.

I did a little clearing up last night, cyberspace clean up. Came across some ramblings that I wrote back in 2007/08. I was both pleasantly surprised and taken aback at the same time. Back when I penned those I definitely had no intention to revisit them. I don't regret the spur of the moment to read them all again. Anybody interested to read them? Heh. And when I was reading I could still feel the emotions hidden in the text. I must have left them there subconsciously. I doubt I can replicate any of those now. Thankfully? I don't know. Sometimes I do wish I can write that way again. I assume that we live a 'the more emotions you reveal, the more people can hurt you' kinda life. I guess this is known as protecting oneself.

Came across one of those numerology thingy in the papers. Won't share the entire thing, just an excerpt of my result. Goes something like this when translated over from Mandarin Chinese, "... the first impression that you give others is one that you are a difficult person. The truth is you are. But rather than being so, it is safer to say that you cannot accept the fact that you didn't strive to be the best." I almost stopped reading after the part about being difficult, because I probably am. Heh. Somewhat true with that last statement, especially on issues that I feel strongly for. Despite the effort to keep it under check, and you can't win it all, but I like to win. Convincingly.

A little quiet these days.

元宵节 just past us by on Monday, it marks the end of the 15 days lunar new year celebrations. A little late, but it is already the second month of the new year already, talk about time flying past us. Old wives tales talked about how weird stuff happens on the night of the full moon, no I did not turn lunatic nor become a fang-baring wolf, instead I woke up to find my bowel in a state of disagreement with me. You can imagine the rest. Somewhat concluded that loaf of wholemeal bread is the cause and is contaminated somehow, since it was the only thing extra that I had from the rest of the household. There are also times where I had the urge to hug the toilet bowl, aside from sitting on it, to puke. Falling asleep at weird hours resulted in me being awake now. Sucks to be ill.

Neighbour commented about how easily it is for our generation to call it quits and we make no hesitation about job hopping when we find ourselves stuck in a rut, who wouldn't, right? And how different it was from our parents seeking stability. I guess times are different. We are considered many times more fortunate than they were, at least we didn't have to worry about nation building and stuff that the men-in-white loved to constantly remind us about. Our generation tend to place a higher utility on happiness, at least I feel that we try very hard to. However along the years the line between being happy and feeling happy is perhaps blurred. Are we really happy with the change? Or did we trick ourselves into thinking that we are indeed? Random senseless ramblings when the mind is not functioning.

A revelation. Because sometimes we got to ask ourselves, is it worth it? The way things go, at the end of the day, it is all for naught. In the dead of the night, you realised how deafening your heartbeat actually is; and silence is something you can actually. When the morning comes you will be leaving here.

The lunar new year holidays went by as quickly as it arrived. Didn't really felt all that festive this year, perhaps due to it being too near the end of year holidays of Christmas and New Year.

Nothing out of the ordinary, except for the fact that I haven't had a single slice of barbequed pork this time round? Heh. The once a year patronising with the relatives, entertaining their easily anticipated questions, almost like a script. Though I did remind myself to make an effort to meet up more with some cousins that I have not seen in a while. Dropped by the flower show @ Sentosa with my aunt and sis too. Had a couple of rounds of yu sheng too, met some friends, pretty much summed up my week.

Spent some quiet time over the weekend, catching up, finishing the book, coffee, walking and stuffing myself with 2 bowls of rice over a late dinner.

I ran a couple of times, and I thought about stuff while at it. And you.

If you are to be stuck in an equivalent of a Groundhog Day, like in that movie, which will be your day?

I think I know mine already.

Time out reading with the oldest friend at the new hideout. What started as a hot and sunny day ended with it being wet and gloomy. The storm arrived just as I was about to leave the house, so the plan was postponed for an hour while we waited the storm out. Came across that rainbow in the sky as I headed out. Now where is that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow? Or the leprechaun?

The peace that we hoped for was none to be found, for as long as that huge family was there. Their kids even started singing, thankfully their elders were quick to hush them. The outing ended with dinner at Chomp Chomp, a rather late one that is. Always nice catching up with the oldest friend.

Surprisingly all I had thus far since two weeks ago was a small container of pineapple tarts. Okay a few pieces of other snacks here and there, but I touched no barbequed pork this year. Sometimes I surprises even myself. Heh.

There are bits and pieces of everything everywhere that I am finding it hard to place everything together and come up with something logical. Top of my mind now, when one decided that he simply couldn't care less anymore; I am like that, at certain phases of life.

I'll continue later when I wake up.

The trouble is you can never replicate the exact emotions that you were experiencing when thinking about certain issues, on another separate day. What you want to say will most probably end up with a totally different mood to what you had in mind. It will linger, but from the moment I decided to think about it later, the desired effect was lost already.

The thought flow when typing versus writing it physically is entirely different. I am inclined to be ambiguous, patronizing or even politically correct when I type. I beat around the bush a lot, if you don't know what I was referring to. Opening and closing with no real conclusion in sight.

When one blogs, there is this part of us wishing for attention. It doesn't have to be in the form of compliments or criticisms; sometimes serving as an outlet whereby it would be a simple form of sharing, personal or not, with whichever random soul that may chance upon it.

I guess it is the complete opposite when i write it down. It gets a lot more personal, no doubt, for I know the content will be safe from prying eyes and unintended recipients. Of course it will get emotional as well. After all, it is somewhere where we can finally remove the layers of armour that we piled upon ourselves to protect against this rough journey called life.

Okay, this post is a week late. I started this on the night when the moon is full, and now the moon is already disappearing in preparation for the end of the lunar year next week. I finished the book, 1Q84, took a while to do so because I couldn't quite get into a mood to finish it up. But I stepped out of the world of Aomame, Tengo and Fuka-Eri eventually. I thought the book was at its best in the first one third. Things started to get draggy and characters were written off; plots that held so much promises but were not fully developed. It could have been so much more, but perhaps it was this abruptness that made it unique, his style, always leaving you asking the what-ifs and why nots. Opening and closing, that I can do.

If you can't understand it without an explanation, you can't understand it with an explanation.

One week to the new lunar year, the feast on the pineapple tarts has started. It has been a childhood favourite of mine. I can do without the rest of the goodies, just gimme my pineapple tarts. Heh.

Alittle recap for the last week of the year. I ate so much that I felt I've put on a good 10kg alone in the past week lmao. Japanese, steak, a littlebeer, steamboat, ice cream. Yeah, pretty much all of those. In an attempt tonegate those calories, I ran a couple of times too, also to clear my head. Itis the end of the year after all.

Ithas been a pretty tame year. I didn’t travel that many timestoo. Only left the country for our friendly neighbor up north.

Tobe honest, I cannot recall how my year went by without referring to what I have written down physically. Even so they may not be entirely accurate. By receiving theiPad 2, purchasing the Macbook pro, and contemplating on which iPod to lay myhands on for replacement, I somewhat became a fanboy for the cult that isApple. Only lacking the phone to complete the collection it seems. However the chanceof me getting it is very low. Given that I have fat fingers and it sports atouchscreen keyboard, the two factors don't go too well.

In 2011I have seen friends tying the knot, and I will be seeing friends who tie the knot in 2012.I am not anti-marriage but I am against whole timeline thingy that we areseemingly brought up with. We are instilled with the idea that when you arrivedat certain age band thresholds there lie upon objectives to be completed, almost like a checklist. We havebecome a population of somewhat mechanical in nature. No surprises given thatthe system in place was designed this way, it makes control over the peopleeasier. Oh well and we do what we do best, that is to rant and complain aboutit, but eventually accepting things the way they are and moving on. Lmao?

Istill visit bookshops, but they seemed to be closing down one after another. Iwasn’t too affected by Borders’ closing though, never had a liking for thatplace. I found it messy and lacking the atmosphere that a bookshop should havefor browsing. Thankfully Kinokuniya is still standing. There is this certain charm ofshopping physically for books? Walking and browsing the shelves, the differentpeople that you encounter along the way. Noisy ones, young ones, serious ones,bored companions; never know what you will encounter. And if not for theconstraint of storing them, there is nothing quite like holding a physical bookand flipping through the pages. Correction. There is nothing like holding aphysical book in your hand.

Some random issues that I can think of the top of my head as I sit here with a hot cup, book and some music.

Have a blessed year ahead in 2012, wherever you are whatever you will be doing.

Everything will turn out alright, eventually.

The rain didn't really stop for the entire day, on and off it fell. In the wee hours of the morning now, it is rather heavy. Seems to be getting heavier as time passes. I don't know, a tinge of grey? Always felt low for this period of the year if you have not known it already.

No matter how tired I may be, I always look forward to the runs and fitness conditioning that we have in the morning every Saturday. Last week's run and conditioning by the Singapore riverside felt more intense than any so far, it was satisfying? Haha. I guess it has to do with the company for providing the motivation to improve. At least I'm seeing improvement? To begin with my core muscles are as weak as they can be, I know right. And I hated doing plank. Even now it isn't the strongest, but at least I'm able to hold the duration and even talk to people. WH says that even if the core isn't that strong, at least the arms are strengthening to compensate for it. LOL. Consolation much? Heh. Improvement feels good when you can see the result. For the record, I still hate doing plank, be it any side, but I will do it.

Haven't been sleeping well though. Pretty disturbed sleeps.

The same distance, but tonight I ran harder than I ever had for the past few months. I was tired, breathing was laboured, but I didn't slow like I would. What was I running from; who was I trying to chase? Are they in fact the same thing? Felt like it was there, perhaps clearer than yesterday.

Other than the monsoon rains that come and go, everyday was perfect for sleeping in. Zzz. Had an interesting episode while YH was sending us back. His rear tire got punctured by a nail on the expressway. Thankfully we made it to a petrol station @ the nearest exit and changed to the spare tire. Out came our smartphones trying to locate a tire vendor so get the punctured one replaced. Eventually we did, and we found ourselves back home soon. He said he was secretly prepared for this, but we told him for the sake of himself let us pray that it won't happen again. Rofl. What a way to end the week with.

Hmm, should make a trip down town soon to take a look at the festive lighting that has been up already. Hold back the rain a little ya?

Watched Immortals with the guys on Thursday after we had dinner in 313. Not the show we originally wanted to watch, but we made do anyway. Pretty packed for a late show on a weekday night, but we had seats that wasn't situated on the first few rows despite being a last minute purchase. The show was okay, felt that the plot was lagging and the action sequences could have been improved. 300 was a much better show.

Saw the decorations in town for the upcoming festive season. Looks promising, at least I think the colour will be much nicer than last year's blue. The blue lighting and scheme coupled with the rain made last year's looked so depressing instead.

Went JB for paintball on Sat. Escaped mostly unharmed from any serious bruises. Except for perhaps the 3 consecutive shots onto the left finger which ruptured a few capillaries under the skin. On a hindsight it was madness to have gone that morning, the long weekend holiday crowd @ the immigration was a killer. Continued with card games that night @ YH's place till rather late, pretty tiring but all fun :).

Attended the third, and probably the last, wedding ceremony this year on Monday. Congratulation once again Daniel and Debra. Caught a movie with YH and KH after that, watched Tower Heist. A rather quiet week this is turning out to be. Not a bad thing.

The day I became a tourist. Yes, I went to Universal Studios today. Very hot and humid, thankfully though, because it was raining the entire week. So today, the heavens decided to spare us. Wasn't that crowded in the day, but the night event was a whole different story altogether. The park isn't very big, and the rides ain't as fast as what you would expect, tame in fact. Wasn't that crowded for a Saturday, queue time was reasonably short, Jurassic Park rapids ride was closed for upgrading till early 2012, was a good experience overall though. Oh did I mention the Cylon ride in the night rocks? Totally different feeling from that in the day.

The park was partially open with selected rides for the Halloween Horror Night event. Man, the horror wasn't the ghouls and zombies lurking in the dark corners, but the long queue and wait to get into attractions. Haha. Oh well, it wasn't too bad for a first attempt by RWS, but either they open more area of the part next year and spread the crowd, or risk the same thing happening again. They had employees stationed at the exit gathering feedback for the event, so hopefully they use the information wisely.

On a side note, I have this unhealthy fascination with taking photos that are, lets just say different, read:gore,scare, you get the point. So I was pleasantly surprised that I had some very cooperative ghouls and spirits that obliged me with their best, or worse, side when I was attempting to capture them on film. Here are some of them before I head off to sleep. I think the Siamese Twins in the red light are kinda cool. :D

Lovely scenic morning run by the bay yesterday. Followed by a hearty breakfast @ Ya Kun in Suntec.

Dinner was @ this place, 7 Kickstart Brewiches, not too bad. A nice quiet place on a busy Sat night is always welcomed. Had drinks @ Loft before heading to the riverside. But it was cut short by the rain that fell shortly after. A long bus ride home completed the night, haven't done that in a while heh.

Power run today with the usual gang. A mixed session of a little sunlight, cloudy day that ended with a downpour during the fourth round that had us giving it all to run to the shelter. Lol. Continued with static physical training on the grandstand before we made our way home after another early Saturday morning workout. The next one will probably be one to look forward to, the city skyline along the river. Hmm..

I know it is over, but Happy Children's Day by the way. There will always be a child inside everyone of us. :)

On a side note, seriously, what is with the big HOOHA over these. Stop living in the stone age. A so-called 21st century 1st world nation with 1600s mentality.

Where should I start. Finally the pain in the foot is gone, at least it is not bothering me that much. The ECP run on Sat was a good start for all of us? Hope to keep this up with the rest of the guys. Haha. Looking forward(for now still) to the next one this Sat.

Dinner and cake @ Big O last night. Almost missed the train because we were playing card games after. So reminded me of how we almost missed our flight back from KL because of the same reason. :P

Had sudden strong gusts of wind just now and it started pouring, so glad I made it home before that. Hate to be drenched after the run, terrible feeling it would have been. With the rain now, I think it will be a good sleep tonight. All now I need now is a good dream. Enough bad ones for the past few days.

We woke up to the early role calls; perspired buckets after dynamic stretching warmups; grimaced in pain during the static PTs; stretched muscles long forgotten; whined about people, anything and everything.

Though we all got lost for very different reasons, TF1 and 2, and no longer used to the load, we didn't give up. Though the sweat and blood we shed, we helped each other in suffering while blocking out unnecessary extra loud noises(read: irritating people who talk a lot) during the mission, completed what we need to and made it to the end.

CO said we got off to a slow start, but we ended the frame with what we do best, a big bang. Because we don't fluff unnecessarily, we only do things when it mattered and we do it to our best with that extra 5% more. Had to agree with what Wilfred said, CO was wrong about us, because he don't understand us. :)

It was great meeting everyone again, reminiscing about the glorious past (HAHA!). YK mentioned that only though suffering men truly bond, can't agree more with that. (though the la-sai gang would not agree with it 100%, you guys reading this shld know who, you know I know.. Haha.)

It has been an awesome 2 weeks. A good break for everyone, looking forward to the next one already. Next year.

It has been a tiring week, physically. Physical training never felt that tough and sleep never felt that good ever before. Haha. Well, at least I didn't die alone, we suffered together every morning @ 0730h. Understood the meaning of dynamic stretching and warming up, LOL. Most of the time we were half spent after warming up. But it was fun.

Woke up to the hills of Bukit Chandu on Saturday morning. Did power run circuit on the slopes and my gluts are aching like a bitch now. Not by choice, it was an ICT NE event, it certainly felt great nonetheless.

Attended two different wedding events on Saturday. A church ceremony in the afternoon and a dinner in the evening. Both of them are army friends and so we had to split up and attend both functions at the different timings. Lol. Talk about planning. Heh.

Well, another week to go. Always fun to be back with the guys. Time to hit the sack and rest those aching muscles.

There was free entry to all museums in the month of August so I found myself in one, the Asian Civilisation Museum. It was not for the permanent exhibits, but the Terracotta exhibits. :D Some of those that I snapped.

The painful truth is I'm no longer 22. Like duh. Gone are the days where I can just sign up for a run and then just go for it. Haha ridiculous as it sounds but the hard truth hit me today, and boy it was painful. You see, I signed up for the PAssion Run 25km race. Back when I signed up for it, I was pretty sure that I had sufficient time to prepare for it. But about 2 months before the run, I kinda injured my left leg through some unknown means. Yes it sounds stupid that I woke up with that mysterious pain in my foot. Took about 1 month for the pain to go away entirely. There you have it, I merely started the run today with the intention to finish before the cut off timing. Haha.

I regretted even turning up for the run. The sun was merciless. I wanted to give up after 2km. I swear it was the longest time I took per distance ran. Not to mention upon entering coast road, the Changi control tower was up to its trick again. You'll know what I mean if you knew what I went through for my 72km march. Aka it appeared at the same spot no matter how much you've walked/ran. It was mental. I didn't suffer cramps but it was painful. Muscles were tight and had some blisters. Oh well.

I am glad its over. Don't foresee myself doing more than a 10km run next time when I'm not prepared. I am not 22 anymore. Rofl.

The cabinet reshuffle. Out with the old and in with the untested. Changing of guard. But how well will they do? It is pointless if the policies remained unchanged. People are not stupid. They know. And we shall see in 2016.

Politics should be about serving the nation and doesn't warrant such a high pay. If we as a nation cannot attract talents to serve the nation willingly, have we failed in our education and upbringing of our population? Just a passing thought.

But I believe in the fact that there is no true altruism. So this probably negate the previous statement. Ignore.

We have shown that we can swing the votes. Their winning margin is down from the 66+% to 60.13% this time. The younger voters have shown that they want a top down change rather than the bottom up changes expected of us.

Movie watching season. Caught Hop, Arthur and Thor. Wasn't too bad, but I thought Thor could have been better.

And if you have not seen it already, I think Kate Middleton's dress is pretty awesome. Almost similar to Grace Kelly's. Classic and elegant. :)

Woah, this brings back the memories. Hell the tower jump had nothing of a freefall feeling that the voiceover mentioned lo, freaking nutcracker it was. Rofl. And also that freaking helmet coupled with the landing drills introduced us to the neck muscles that we never knew existed , aka can't move our necks after 2 days. Had to literally lift/pull our heads up from our pillow.

But it was great fun!

I made it back in one piece.

Survived the inefficiency, weird weather, pollution, language barrier, irritating people, cabbies that don't know the way, being alert all the time, almost missing the plane because we were playing Cluedo Suspects in Starbucks and ended up being the last to board (lol), and last but not least sinfully nice food.

It reaffirms my belief that we are right to laugh. At them. Rofl. Thank god for the good company that more than made up for it, and throw in the free accommodation :P

I logged into my account just for fun via the web client which thankfully doesn't have that loud foghorn like it has on the downloaded client. Not sure if the foghorn is still around, but it was the one thing that I vividly recall about it. There are even games on the website. I think its a new feature because I don't recall having them in the past.

The human mind is pretty amazing. You remember the things that are totally useless and long believed to be forgotten, and yet some of us have problem recalling what we did yesterday. But do you decide to forget, or can you forget? How does it work really. I have a very vague scientific idea of how it works, but I cannot recall really. Felt like I've read about it a long time ago. Whatever.

Was hoping the thunderstorm will last the night, but it stopped hours ago. The sky is all overcast and cloudy yet I'm here thinking about star light star bright. Oh the irony.

I had lunch @ Junction 8 before heading to Expo for this afternoon. Ate the bbq grilled fish and rice. The interesting thing is the best items on my plate were the two slices of cucumber, depressing, rofl.

So yeah, hot afternoon, long queue into the carpark, cheap books, slow payment queue for little items, versus fast moving payment queue for many items, of course I took the latter. A rather brainless decision. Pretty much sum up my day.

I was very restless the entire day. Slept very little last night. Couldn't sleep well also. I went running after the rain in the late evening.

Walked past my kindergarten on my way back after the run. Seeing the labels on the door, it struck me that when I was in K1, it was 20 years ago. Where we did hand printing on paper; lantern during Mid Autumn Festival; drew stick people (I am still drawing them today ^_^ ); had some bean thick soup that I never liked; birthday celebrations once in a while; wrote our day on the top left corner of our work and the date on the top right; those are the things that I can recall offhand now. Lol. Random much.

And I know I will be hungry later. I'm very sure.
